Salina Aquatics Club is seeking a head
coach to begin the 2005 Short Course swimming season. Applicants
should be open-minded and goal-oriented team players. Enthusiasm is a
must, as well as a passion for children and seeing them positively
develop. We are interested in a coach who believes in lifelong
learning about the sport of swimming and coaching techniques.
Applicants must have a competitive
swimming and coaching background and be a USA Swimming certified coach
who has passed the first year exam. He or she must have a
comprehensive knowledge of the rules and fundamentals of competitive
swimming and abide by Missouri Valley and USA Swimming rules and
regulations. ASCA level 2 preferred but not required. Knowledge of
Hy-Tek software a plus. An applicant must be able to demonstrate
organizational and record -keeping skills. A background check will be
required. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
Salina Aquatics Club averages between
50-100 mostly novice swimmers. Numbers fluctuate depending on the time
of year because of outside participation in summer recreation leagues.
Our team is looking for a leader to develop a senior program while
continuing to promote a club that is welcoming to all ages, levels and
commitments. We have one Sectional qualifier, a small group of early
HS swimmers, and a handful of promising 10 –12 year olds. We have a
light, but steady, stream of newcomers into the program throughout the
year.
During the short course season, the
coach must be on deck for team practices M-F from 4-6 PM at the local
YMCA and also M-TH 6-8 PM at the high school natatorium. We currently
have two assistant coaches, and possible high school assistants, with
limited availability to help on deck. Attendance at designated
team-meets is also required. Summer practice schedules will vary
depending on pool availability. The club is looking for a good
communicator and ambassador that can work with city and other
community officials in the future regarding drives toward establishing
a new outdoor city swimming complex.
Other duties of the head coach include
but are not limited to:
- Communicating openly and
regularly with swimmers, parents, board members and other coaches.

Setting measurable goals for club growth and development

Creating seasonal plans for the club and provide the board with
written explanations as well as post-season summaries of goals and
improvements

Voting member of the board. Attendance at board meetings
required.

Completing and sending in all meet entries

Maintaining team/athlete database

Acting in a professional manner at all time – will have to
communicate and work with local school district and YMCA staff. |
